IP Subnet Calculator

Work out an IPv4 or IPv6 network's range, size, mask and wildcard, and split it up.

For example 10.0.0.0/22 or 2001:db8::/48

How to calculate a subnet

  1. Type an address with its prefix, such as 192.168.1.0/24.
  2. Read the network, host range, host count and mask.
  3. Check an address against it, or split it into smaller networks.

Questions

Does it work for IPv6?

Yes. IPv6 networks are calculated exactly, even a /0 with its 340 undecillion addresses.

Why are there two fewer hosts than addresses?

In IPv4 the first address names the network and the last is the broadcast address. A /31 or /32 is the exception, and uses every address.

What is the wildcard?

The mask with its bits flipped, as firewall and router rules often expect.

Is anything looked up?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
